DC - Genesis Mile Chapter 03

Chapter 3: The Two Friend Misfits

It was now morning, and Tomo had just gotten out of bed, so excited about what was to happen next, for this was the time for him to become a true trainer like everyone else, and get his first Pokemon. He knew he had the choice between Chikoritta, Cyndaquil and Totodile, and he didn’t mind which one he chose, mainly because he just wanted to get away from the City as soon as possible. So after finishing his beloved buttered-toast breakfast, he set off for the lab.

Whilst this had been happening, the Hitmontop had been walking into the city trying to find help, but to no avail. So he sat down in an alley way and rested
“What is happening to me?” the Hitmontop asked himself sadly “and I bet human speech is the first side effect of that experiment. No matter, at least I am far away from them now, only now where do I go next?”
Across the road from where he was sitting was a TV shop, on the TV’s it is showing a commercial presenting a short man in a lab coat, there was a line below him on the TV with the name “Professor Donald Edwards, Pokemon Researcher”. He was chatting about Pokemon theory, then the TV showed a view of his lab, with the address stated below it, Hitmontop got a glimpse of the words “Merzo City” assuming that his lab is indeed in the City he is in now. The TV also showed the Professor stating he is giving out beginning Pokemon to new trainers.
“Maybe he could help” thought Hitmontop, and he got up, now feeling better than before, and started walking to try and find the lab.

Meantime, Tomo was having trouble getting a train to the lab, he was at the train station in Pine street, and he had just found out the train to Central Merzo City station will be delayed
“This is just great” Tomo snorted, “The very day I get my first Pokemon and I am going to be late!”
Brock the express Diesel, who is of course going to the central station overheard.
“Sorry” apologised Brock “but orders are orders and I can’t leave without a clearance”
Tomo didn’t mind, but he was starting to worry, but tried to calm down to avoid doing something drastic like that fiasco he had yesterday, otherwise he wouldn’t hear the end of it.

On the other side of the City, Hitmontop was lost and exhausted and he didn’t know where he was. Suddenly, he had bumped into someone and landed on his butt
“Sorry” he apologised, then he looked up to see who it was, it was the same red haired girl that Tomo had saved yesterday but Hitmontop didn’t know this. She kneeled down looked at him kindly
“No I’m sorry” she said to him “I wasn’t watching where I was going”
“Its ok” Hitmontop replied “I just cant wait to get to the lab”
The girl was surprised, she had never seen a talking Pokemon before
“does this mean you can talk?” she asked
“Yeah” Hitmontop replied, “only happened just yesterday night, which wasn’t a pleasant night I can tell you”
“Well look at it this way” the girl said, whilst digging into her backpack “if you can talk, I can help you out more”
“How so?” the Hitmontop asked, the girl had gotten out some cream biscuits and handed them to him
“You must be hungry” she smiled, Hitmontop just stared at the food, he had just come out of a cruel society and never expected some stranger to give him food, let alone actually care about his health. Regardless he took the biscuits and ate them.
“thank you” he said kindly “your very kind”
“Names Daisy” the girl said, “are you heading somewhere?”
“I’m heading down to see Professor Edward” the Hitmontop replied, “I was hoping he could help me out”
“Oh he’s a very good man” said Daisy, “He gives beginning Pokemon to new trainers, and know a lot about Pokemon”
“Any idea where I can find him?” he asked, Daisy stood up and pointed behind her
“Keep going this way, then take a right, and it will be at the end of that road”
“Thank you” said the Hitmontop politely “I will never forget your kindness”
now Daisy began to get curious, he seemed a little too polite to be saying something like that
“Is something the matter” she asked curiously, Hitmontop just kept walking
“I have never been treated nicely before” he replied. After that Daisy walked away, now growing a little worried about him, “I hope he’s ok” she thought to herself.

Tomo had finally gotten to the Central station, although he was very late, so he ran as fast as he could the rest of the way. When he had finally gotten there, he noticed a crowd around the lab, he started to ask “Is everyone here to get their first Pokemon”,
someone in the crowd answered “Not us, they are”, and he pointed to three trainers, one of them a teenage boy with green hair and a blue shirt and jeans, the other a girl in a green dress and long blue hair, the last one was facing away from the crowd. Everyone was cheering for them
“So are these new trainers” Tomo asked
“Of course we are” said the green haired boy “Are you new in town?”
“I’ve lived here a long time” Tomo replied
“I meant new face around the lab of the famous Professor Edward” chucked the boy “Names Jack”
“And I’m Molly” added in the girl with the blue hair “If you have come here for a new Pokemon then I’m afraid your too late”
Tomo felt a little disappointed, after the ceremony was over the other trainer set off, as he was passing Tomo he said something to him
“We’ll meet again soon enough”
Tomo was now curious as to who he was, but before he could think about it, the Professor noticed Tomo
“You must be Tomo” he said kindly
“That’s me” he replied
“Molly told me about your situation” said the Professor “and I understand about the train delays too, but afraid I am fresh out” and he took Tomo inside the lab to show him around
“I know that” said Tomo confidently, “But you are getting more right?”
“hard to say” he replied “I have no idea when they will send in anymore”,
“Do you think you can book me one?” Tomo asked, the Professor pondered for a moment, and took a look at him. “You do seem like a promising trainer” he said modestly “I guess I could entitle you to one when the time comes”
“I can fully understand your situation” said Tomo kindly “so there is no rush, and I thank you kindly for the offer to save one for me” then Tomo walked towards the door.
“Wait” shouted the Professor “You didn’t say which one you wanted”
”I don’t care” Tomo replied as he was heading out, “anyone is fine with me”, but the Professor hurried out the door to catch up
“Then at least take this” said the Professor, offering him a PokeGear “You don’t have a licence yet, but you can still use the clock and phone abilities, I can contact you when the time comes”. Tomo took it and thanked him, and then walked home. Sometime afterwards, Hitmontop just entered the lab, the Professor noticed this and went up to him
“Can I help you?” he asked, hoping to get some reasonable answer from a Pokemon that doesn’t know English, that is until Hitmontop replied
“Please, I was wondering if you could help me”
The Professor was speechless, but could see Hitmontop wasn’t happy, and wanted to help him, so he took him into the other room to talk things out.

Tomo was back at the train station waiting for a train ride home, feeling disappointed that he couldn’t leave the City so soon. He was about to think up another way to hide from yesterdays incident when his PokeGear rang, so he answered it.
“Hello Tomo” said Professor Edward on the phone
“I am guessing this isn’t about the new shipment” Tomo joked
“There is no shipment” replied the Professor, “but something has just occurred and I do have a Pokemon for you right now”
“Seems a little too good to be true”
“it does, but this Hitmontop has actually asked me if he could hook up with any trainers, after that you quickly came to mind, and I think he would be better off with you.”
“That would be great Professor”, then Hitmontop came on the phone
“That would be fantastic, however there is something you should know before taking me in”
“Why, what’s wrong?” Tomo asked, and he listened carefully, however Tomo suddenly heard a loud crumbling sound on his phone, the Professor quickly spoke to him “Come quick, something has just happened!”
The phone went off, and Tomo ran quickly back to the lab to see what was the matter.

A tank had just crashed into the wall, with the Team Skull logo on it, three grunts climbed out of it.
“Hand over all of the Pokemon you have pops” they shouted
“Even if I had any I would never surrender them to you!” the Professor shouted back
“We are Team Skull” one of them said proudly “The next generation of evil organisations, we can do what we please…”
The he was interrupted by his companion who had just pointed out Hitmontop, they all then realised who he was
“We meet again” the Hitmontop yelled
“We thought you were dead” laughed one of the grunts, “nevertheless we shall finish what we started”
”Not without a fight” Hitmontop shouted
“As you wish” the grunt taunted, and he got out a huge whip and tied it around Hitmontop’s wrist. “Now that we have you back, your execution will go along more smoothly, we don’t want our latest experiment walking around cities now can we?”
The Professor was shocked at what he had just heard, now realising who Hitmontop really was.

Tomo then suddenly barged in and noticed Team Skull trying to take him away.
“You see pops” explained the grunt, who hadn’t noticed Tomo just yet, “We had been working on a latest experiment, which this Pokemon is a big part of. But that experiment has been proven to be more dangerous than we thought, and has now been a big threat to us, so we are finishing him off now”
Tomo had heard enough, and fired a purple energy blast at the grunt with the whip. Tomo knew what it was like to be considered “dangerous”
“Leave him alone” he said slowly, now growing more angry at them, the grunts were very surprised, then again so was Hitmontop and the Professor
“What are you?” asked one of the grunts
“Just a City vampire learning a few tricks” Tomo replied “Now to finish you…”
but then Hitmontop stopped him
“Please” pleaded Hitmontop “I appreciate the help, but I want to be the one finishing these guys off. Then he looked at them fearcly, “You don’t control me anymore”, and then he used a powerful triple kick to send them all flying. They were now gone, and they didn’t need to worry about them anymore.

Later that day, Professor Edward was appauled at both Tomo and Hitmontop
“I cannot believe this” he said angrily “a Vampire and an experiment in MY lab”
Tomo and Hitmontop were looking so glum
“And I cannot believe the rash actions you took today, and have a right mind to tell everyone of what you did”
Now they were even more depressed
“However” he said calmly “I understand that these events are not deliberate, and that’s why I think you two should go together”
and now both Tomo and Hitmontop were surprised
“I believe you two are very good individuals” he continued, “but I think it would be for the best if you two left this city for a while”
Now Tomo was laughing, and replied “funny you should say that, that has been exactly my plan from the start”
“This has been one hell of a day” laughed the Professor, “so we best get you two sorted”
“Thank you” said Hitmontop, and faced Tomo, “I know it’s a little weird considering your powers, but you cant be half as bad as Team Skull, at least I can be with someone who shares my pain”
“Mines a little more complicated” replied Tomo “But I will gladly take care of you, like Ash and Pikachu”
“Maybe not that mushy” laughed Hitmontop “But I get what you mean”
“Basically” continued Tomo “I would be glad if you became my Pokemon”
For Hitmontop it was a little sudden, but accepted it greatly. Professor Edward then advised them to leave so that they wouldn’t catch you straight off, that’s when Hitmontop randomly said “Justice?”, everyone was curious
“Sorry” he apologies, “Ever since I knew how to talk, I kept saying that word for some reason”
So after they have set everything up, they said their farewells, and they both walked away from the City.

They were now looking down at the City below, they have each told their story to each other and were now more understanding of their situation.
“So you’re a City Vampire right?” asked Hitmontop, “That would explain the powers”
“And you were part of this “EX Raid” Experiment right?” asked Tomo
“Yeah” replied Hitmontop, “but hey, we are not exactly alone anymore”
“Well you know how the song goes” laughed Tomo, and he sang a segment from a song by “Justin Timberlake”, Hitmontop asked what that song was called.
“Walk away, by Justin Timberlake” answered Tomo, “not a very bright singer mind you”
Hitmontop laughed, then asked “I believe you have to give me a nickname right?”
“Yeah”
Justin smiled, now that he had been told what the name “Justice” meant, he felt as if this idea for a name would suit him.
“Please…Then call me Justin”
Tomo gave back a smile, “That nickname is perfect for you”
It was now time for them to enter the forest behind them.
“Then we ought to be going…Justin” Tomo told him.
Hitmontop, now named Justin was now more happy than ever, he had now found a true friend to stick by, and being given a name gave him a true feeling that he does indeed belong. From here on out, the City Vampire and the EX-Raid Pokemon were ready for the adventures ahead.
